This city takes pleasure in being the capital. Or might I say, the ‘royal capital’ as the Burmese word ‘Naypyidaw’ translates to ‘abode of the king’. As one of the most visited cities of Myanmar, Naypyidaw boasts a lot of exciting places to visit:
1. The Uppatasanti Pagoda
This is one of the most prominent landmarks of the capital city. Also, It stands around ninety nine metres tall and houses a Buddha tooth relic from China. “Uppatasanti” roughly translates to “protection against calamity”. Apart from being a great attraction in this city, this pagoda also appears in the list of the top pagodas of the country.
2 .Naypyidaw Zoological Gardens
This zoo is located off the Yangon-Mandalay highway, and is actually given the title of being the largest zoo in South East Asia. Indeed, being the largest zoo it houses all varieties of animals starting from land mammals, to birds, to reptiles. One of its most notable attraction is the fully air-conditioned area created especially for penguins.
3. National Herbal Park
This is a herbal park covering an area of about 200-acres and it proudly houses more than 20,000 herbal and medicinal plants, that are representing around 700 species from the various states and areas of Myanmar. The herbal park is an effort by the government to try and protect the growth and safety of all these herbal plants and to keep alive the country’s traditional source of medicine.
This is an astounding 4 floor facility. The museum showcases all wonderful Burmese jewels and has another 3 floors specifically constructed for shops that sell these gems like rubies etc. This is a must-visit for those looking for precious gifts for loved ones, or those who simply have an interest in gemmology.
5.Naypyidaw Water Fountain Garden
This place is ideal for an evening walk in the fresh air, with a mesmerising water fountain in the centre of the garden. When on a trip to this city, this garden is the kind of place you can hang out at to relax and just take a breather.
6. Myoma Market
This is the most famous market of the capital city of Myanmar. Thus, all shopaholics should head out here to purchase a variety of things. From souvenirs to take back home, Burmese clothing, or just about anything else that they require.
As a new capital of Myanmar, Naypyidaw is progressing a lot and will definitely start attracting more tourists with the number of attractions it is trying to provide.
